Burgundy Information Services negotiates exclusive discount on SPIE Digital Library for UK Universities

UK Universities can now benefit from an exclusive NESLI-endorsed agreement for the SPIE Digital Library, providing a further discount on the published list prices. In response to a 12-month study involving in-depth interviews with academic, government, and corporate librarians and researchers in North America, Europe, and Asia, SPIE announced a global 10% rollback in pricing of institutional subscriptions for 2010. As the exclusive UK SPIE distributor Burgundy has subsequently negotiated a further 15% discount for UK Universities as part of the NESLi2 agreement. In addition, UK University prices will be fixed at the 2010 rate until 2012 with no price increases.
Nancy Buckley, Managing Director of Burgundy said: "In these times of economic pressure it is encouraging to see a publisher not just freeze their prices, but decrease them in response to real market insight. This move offers libraries some relief from the high journal price increases they so often experience from other publishers. Burgundy has built upon their strong relationships with JISC and SPIE to extend the SPIE Digital Library’s pricing rollback, and negotiated a separate and exclusive discount for members of the NESLi2 consortium".
